The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Water began a program in 2008 to implement green street projects at multiple state capitol campuses including the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The primary goals of the program were to showcase green infrastructure at prominent locations for policy makers and general public, spread green infrastructure technologies throughout different sectors and climates within the nation, and build local capacity for landscape architects to implement green street projects. Since the Green Capitols Program’s inception in November 2008, three states have undergone conceptual design projects and two are planning phased construction in 2010-11. Kevin Robert Perry has worked on this project while at Nevue Ngan Associates and has also visited another 16 capital cities in to assess the potential for green infrastructure retrofit opportunities. This particular project provided the impetus for the larger scale Greening America’s Capitals project partnered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).   Kevin Robert Perry was the lead designer for this project while working at Nevue Ngan Associates.
