Urban Rain Design and El Dorado Inc.  in collaboration with students from Kansas State University’s School of Architecture have been awarded as the winner of the Green in the City national design competition in Omaha, Nebraska. Green in the City is a competition to create an urban community space in the 10th and Pacific block of downtown Omaha, Nebraska. The two-phase competition was whittled down from 50 applicant teams to five design teams and presents an opportunity for design teams to develop and implement an innovative design for urban open space in Omaha that can inspire other urban communities to follow suit. Omaha by Design, a local urban design and environmental nonprofit, is serving as the project manager for Green in the City, and the Nebraska Arts Council, an agency of the state of Nebraska, will facilitate the project’s competition process. The 104’ x 72’ project site is adjacent to two projects under development in the 10th and Pacific block of downtown Omaha.  The architecture firm Min|Day is designing the new home of the BlueBarn Theater and Boxcar 10, a mixed use building with a small parking area in concert with the Green in the City design team. The theater will include an outdoor performance and audience area that opens onto and extends into the Green in the City site.
